I think there are smaller, sleeker models out there now (I bought this about 1.5 years ago). backed up, and it's barely made a dent. I have tons of pictures, videos, documents, music, etc. It's somewhat large and has two cables (to the ac adapter and to the USB port). this is a great external hard drive. I haven't had any problems and holds SO MUCH information. The only thing I don't like is that it's bulky.
very good finished and quality inside, (HDD is seagate) very fast to transfer files, iam happy with this external hard disk drive.
The blue power light was on and it sounds like the hard drive is spinning. I had this product for about 6 months when it started making a continuous beep, like a busy signal. The computer no longer recognized the hard drive.Under warranty they will replace, but you lose your data and the warranty is just for one year.I found many similar incidents for this Hard Drive on the Iomega User Community forum.
All my files are there. YOU CANNOT TRANSFER A SINGLE FILE THAT IS >4 GIGS. Just plug it into the USB. But just be advised-- this is very important. I use it for both, and there's no problem. Just plug it in. I heard that this HD dies out very quick, so I am always sure to click the power button on the HD when it gets hot. It's a very good product for the price.
I had to do this, and it took me several hours to figure out how to get a 4 gig file from one computer to the other. Also, nothing gets "deleted" or reset if you are wondering. It gets hot very quickly, but transferring is very easy. Most of the time, it is off ( I don't want to burn the HD out bc it has important information in it). Most of you won't have this problem, but it is a warning. Also, for me, it is very easily compatibility with mac and PC.
Am thinking of getting another Iomega like this one Iomega Select Desktop Hard Drive - Hard drive - 1 TB - external - 3.5" - Hi-Speed USB - buffer: 8 MB - black and reformatting as NTFS to store my DV video. It still works fine. My reccomendation is to buy 2. No problems yet. Dont depend upon 1 drive in constant use for critical backup. Not at all noisy or hot as some have reported.
One to use and one to backup onto daily that then gets turned off & stored safely. Bought this unit from Amazon July 23,2008. Have stuffed it into my laptop computer bag and hauled it through the gauntlet of Airport security and the tender ministrations of the baggage handlers twice since then. However, as with ALL electromechanical devices, they eventually wear out or may develop issues.
